This story is about Cindy and Julia. Cindy is a normal mother, who has to deal with her outlandish daughter. Her daughter has tested her constantly and she keeps forgiving her for all of her misdemeanors.
In the first 1/4 of the book Fielding tells a story of how Julia was shaped by Cindy's lack of attention toward her when she was a child, and by Julia's parents divorce, etc..
Now, Julia has gone missing and no one seems to think that this is abnormal behavior for Julia. Only Cindy seems to be up in arms that something is wrong...
